Through DH’s month of giving in November, we were able to partner with so many amazing organizations that impact both our Rochester and Syracuse communities. One of these high-impact givers we worked closely with all month long is Foodlink of Rochester. Together we were able to pilot a brand-new initiative, their virtual food drive. This new way of giving is easy and convenient for both the user and Foodlink. We’ve been so moved by the generosity we’ve seen towards our Rochester community through this initiative that we decided to continue our month of giving into December!
The food bank’s new online giving tool was the perfect place to start. We set up our virtual food drive and recruited our Rochester community to join us and give back. A combined effort left us with $641 in total raised funds, the equivalent to 1,923 meals for the Rochester community. To maximize our efforts, we decided to send our crew over to Foodlink to volunteer their time at their facility.
We challenge you to join us in continuing to give this holiday season. Foodlink accepts food, time, and monetary donations from the community. The secret to their success is that they are able to purchase food in bulk which allows them to drive down costs for its members. Through their maximization strategy, they are able to turn every $1 donated into 3 warm meals for community members that are at risk of hunger. The services at Foodlink extend beyond those found at the standard food pantry. They also offer:
• Community Kitchen
• Community Health Programs
• Nutrition Education
• Food Hub
• Career Empowerment
• Green Initiatives

“At the end it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” -Denzel Washington
